It’s that time, the summer holidays are coming to an end, and the preparation for back to school for the new school year has begun.
We have bought new books, school supplies and uniforms. Some of our children will be starting new schools and new grades.
In preparation for the school year, we need to take in to consideration preparing our children’s teachers about them.
Please find attached a package, that JASA has put together from various sources, for you to give your child’s class teacher and any other teacher you think this will be helpful to.
First in the package is ‘A Letter To My Teacher – 15 Things About Me’. This is something for you to fill out about your child so that his/her teacher will know what to expect with your child – their likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.
Other topics addressed in the package are;
- The General Definition of Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Understanding Behaviour
- Teaching Tips for Children & Adults with Autism
- Ten Things Every Student with Autism Wishes You Knew
- Understanding Sensory Issues
- Take the Sensory Challenge
- About the Jamaica Autism Support Association (JASA)
Please feel free to copy all or parts of the package to present to your child’s teacher.
